Needle Types — A Quick Guide

Betweens / Quilting — Short length with a small, round eye and sharp point. Designed for fine, even stitches in quilting and detailed handwork.

Chenille — Medium length with a long, oval eye and sharp point. Excellent for thicker threads, crewel wool, and silk ribbon embroidery.

Crewel / Embroidery — Medium length with a long, oval eye and sharp point. Identical in size to Sharps but with a longer eye for easier threading with embroidery floss. Ideal for surface embroidery and smocking.

Darners — Extra-long with a long eye. Used for darning, mending heavy materials, and doll making.

Milliners / Straw — Extra-long with a round eye and sharp point. The eye is no wider than the shaft, making them perfect for bullion knots, Brazilian embroidery, and beadwork.

Sharps — A general-purpose hand sewing needle with a round eye and sharp point. The everyday essential.
