How Thread Conversion Works

Most cross stitch patterns call out their colors by DMC number. If you would rather stitch with hand-dyed thread from Gentle Art, Weeks Dye Works, or Classic Colorworks, this conversion chart finds the closest equivalent.

Pick a brand, then search a color name or number. You will see every match we track, with the current price, what is in stock, and an Add to Cart button on anything we sell. DMC, Anchor, Cosmo, Sullivans, and J&P Coats are here as reference points for looking a color up. We do not stock those brands.

Hand-dyed thread shifts from one dye lot to the next, so no conversion is exact. Every match is rated close or approximate so you can judge it against your own project. Buy enough of a hand-dyed color to finish, because the next lot will not match. If a color really matters and you are not sure, send us a note and we will help you pick.
