Hands On Design is the studio of designer Cathy Habermann, creator of some of the most beloved counted cross stitch patterns of the past two decades. Her work spans the full needlework calendar — from the much-loved seasonal Chalkboard series to seasonal smalls, samplers, alphabets, baby records, and finishing-friendly designs that finish beautifully as pinkeeps, pillows, and ornaments.

Hands On Design charts are stitched with hand-dyed flosses from Weeks Dye Works, Classic Colorworks, Gentle Art Sampler Threads, and Cosmo, on linens from Weeks Dye Works and Fabrics by Stephanie. Each chart includes finishing notes and clear color keys, with DMC conversions provided where applicable.
