Sajou 4.3" Tartan Plaid Embroidery Scissors (Private Collection)

These distinctive embroidery scissors draw their inspiration from 19th century Scottish Mauchline ware — decorative sewing accessories covered in tartan that were prized throughout Victorian-era Europe. Rather than paper, Sajou encases genuine tartan fabric between layers of crystal acetate, creating handles with a smooth, glossy feel and vivid plaid pattern.

The steel blades carry the engraved Sajou name and are hand-paired by French scissor craftsmen. Pairing marks on the inside of each blade confirm that both halves have been matched and adjusted together from initial assembly. A tassel adds a finishing touch.
